The Centre for Material Science |
|
The Centre, consisting of The Scanning
Electron Microscopy Laboratory, The Transmission Electron Microscopy
Laboratory, The Scanning Probe Microscopy Laboratory and The
X-Ray Diffraction Analysis Laboratory, supports research
programs in analysis and
characterisation of fullerenes, thin films and coatings. We study
properties of materials for various industrial applications in the
fields of electronics and mechanical engineering. |

Laboratory of Modern Materials |
|
The Laboratory is aimed at development of powder
metallurgy technology for sliding bushings with controlled porosity
and tribological characteristics. We study effects of lubricants and
IF-WS2 nanoparticles mixture flows in porous channels on
tribological properties of porous composites. Development of new
impregnation technologies for porous bearings is yet another
direction of our research. |

Plasma Physics Laboratory |
|
The Laboratory conducts both basic and applied
research of low temperature plasmas which have important industrial
applications. Our current research concerns the development of
plasma sources that use both electromagnetic waves and steady
electric and magnetic fields to impart energy to particles. We
also intend to train the hit engineering students in principles of
plasma physics and technology. |

Laboratory of Tribology |
|
The mainstream of the Laboratory activities lies
in mechanical-mathematical modelling, computer simulations and
experimental investigations of friction and wear behaviour of
various materials. New and standard experimental research methods
are used to study the deformation and fracture of surface layers
subject to specific contact conditions. We study friction and wear
from macro- to nano-scale levels. |
